The head of the Supreme Council of State in Libya, Mohamed Takala, called on members of the Presidential Council and the National Unity Government to provide support for the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel on charges of genocide in Gaza.

In his speech, today, Tuesday, Takala stressed the necessity of assigning a team of legal experts to prepare the necessary files to enhance the chances of success of this lawsuit, and to exert efforts and endeavors to formulate a joint Arab-Islamic effort towards this position.
South Africa resorted to filing a lawsuit before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in which it said that “Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, and that it does not work to punish those who incite genocide.”
South Africa asked the court to discuss the matter, in the coming days, and issue a temporary order against Israel calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to the request, this step is necessary to protect the Palestinians from “additional and irreparable harm.”
It also asked the court to order Israel to allow Palestinians who were displaced from their homes in the Gaza Strip to return to it, to stop depriving them of food, water and humanitarian aid, to ensure that Israelis do not incite genocide and punish those who do, and to allow an independent investigation into Israel’s military operations. .
The International Court of Justice announced earlier that South Africa had submitted a request to initiate proceedings against Israel for “acts of genocide against the Palestinian people” in the Gaza Strip.
Haaretz newspaper reported that Israel had appointed a British lawyer to defend it before the International Court of Justice.
