The level of French confidence in President Emmanuel Macron decreased over the past month after his attempts to convince the population of the necessity of supporting Ukraine, and the problems in the French economy are at their most severe.
The French newspaper Les Echos, citing a poll conducted by the social pollster Elap, reported that representatives of the older generation (65 years and older) were subjected to the greatest disappointment in Macron, as he retained the confidence of only 27% of participants from this age group in April in the president. state, while there were 36% in March.
"The French executive is approaching the European election campaign in a complicated situation. There is no effect (of uniting) to support Ukraine, and the appointment of Gabriel Attal to the position of Prime Minister is not achieving any success," said Bernard Sananes, head of the Elap Foundation.
Sananis believes that this is linked to his statements about Ukraine and what the relevant ministers revealed regarding the issue of the budget deficit. If we take data for all age groups, among the people who voted to re-elect Macron in 2022, the French president retained the support of only 76% of them.
The foundation's president noted that participants spoke about "the fear of war, the national debt, and unfulfilled environmental promises."
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal's approval rating has remained stable at 32% over the past three months.
The newspaper presented data from the survey conducted by the foundation in April. It did not reveal information about the number of participants and the exact dates of the survey.
