THE paedophile suspected of snatching Madeleine McCann laughed and boozed at his birthday bash — only weeks after he was first quizzed by cops.

Our exclusive pictures show Christian B partying with friends the month after he was interviewed in connection with the missing youngster.

A source said: “He looked like he didn’t have a care in the world.”

Christian B, 47, is serving a seven-year jail term in Germany for rape.

He will stand trial next week on five separate sex assault charges.

Our photographs show him tucking into steak, vol-au-vents, Russian salad and Spanish omelette as he celebrates his 37th birthday with a group of friends in late 2013.

A former friend told The Sun on Sunday: “He was the life and soul of the party.

“He would get everyone drunk with free booze and we would end up partying until two or 3am.

“His birthday was the same. It ended up being a really long night.”

One snap shows Christian B on the floor hugging his pet dog, believed to be the same one police found in 2016 buried next to six memory sticks containing videos of child abuse.

The party pictures were taken in a kiosk Christian B ran from 2012 to 2016 in Braunschweig, near Hanover.

Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007, days before her fourth birthday.

Christian B lived near the Algarve resort at that time.

German police first questioned him in November 2013 after a tip-off from a man who saw an e-fit of the suspect.

Christian B is due to stand trial on Friday over sex attacks in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. They include the alleged rape of a teenage girl.

He was jailed in 2019 for two rapes including that of a 72-year-old US woman in 2006.

Christian B denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance and has not been charged in connection with the case.

‘KIDNAP PLOT’

It comes as an ex-pal said that Christian B plotted to kidnap a child a week before Madeleine vanished.

He hoped to sell the youngster to a childless German couple, it is said.

Last week, Christian B’s lawyer said his client will likely stay silent during his upcoming trial but “has nothing to hide”.

Public defender Friedrich Fülscher said: “We will see whether the defendant will defend himself in silence or make statements denying individual acts.

“At the moment, I do not assume that there will be any substantive submissions.”
