A BRITISH businessman has been charged with murder after his young housekeeper was found dead at the bottom of a waterfall.

The banker, 34, has been accused of evading police in Hong Kong as he fled to mainland China alongside his wife after the woman’s body was found.

The victim was found with severe head wounds at the base of a Hong Kong waterfall, after sustaining blunt force trauma from the horrific fall.

It is believed that she drowned after sustaining the wounds to her head and limbs, meaning she did not die on impact.

The businessman allegedly visited the Waterfall Bay Park near Aberdeen with the housekeeper, 25, at around 11pm on October 27.

He then abruptly left the scene alone in a taxi half an hour later.

Police superintendent Sin Kwok-ming said that the deceased’s clothes remained untouched, possibly ruling out a physical altercation.

Sin said that the Brit was suspected because of his behaviour, and because he did not report the incident.

“A lot of things about him were unreasonable.

“…some evidence had also disappeared for no reason.

“All these circumstances suggest that this is not a case of natural death.”

Police identified the man and dispatched a squad to arrest him at his home in Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong.

However, in a twist, by the time police reached the residence, the couple had left.

He was arrested two days later with his Hong Kong-local wife, 36, upon their return to the city on October 29.

His wife is facing charges of allegedly aiding his attempt to evade police.

However, his partner has been released on bail.

The Brit’s exact relationship to the housekeeper, and the exact events that led to her fatal fall, are still under investigation.

Police are awaiting a toxicology report to determine if the female victim had any drugs in her system at the time of her death, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

The case will be mentioned at Eastern Magistrate’s Court on November 1, a police spokesperson has confirmed.

The couple were captured at a high-speed railway station in West Kowloon.

The young service worker was from Indonesia, and was discovered floating in the water around 7am on October 28.

According to local media, the Brit and his Hong Kong wife settled in the city after marrying, where they ran a small business together.
