Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) announced that on February 1, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) of the Selangor Police had arrested one Indonesian citizen in connection with the shooting of an Indonesian citizen in Malaysia that occurred on January 24.
"The Indonesian citizen entered Malaysia on a tourist visa and was detained by the police to assist in the investigation," quoted a written statement from the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha in Jakarta, Monday.
Judha said that until now the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has not received consular notification regarding the arrest and has sent a diplomatic note to the Malaysian Government to request an explanation and consular access for the Indonesian citizen in question.
Judha said that on January 31, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur had met with the Head of the Selangor Police Contingent (IPK) Headquarters (Head of Selangor Regional Police).
The Police Chief expressed his commitment to carry out a thorough, fast and transparent investigation, including into the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM) officers involved, said Judha.
Judha also mentioned that of the three articles used in the investigation in question, there was one article in the Firearms Act which was used to investigate APMM officers for alleged wrongdoing in the use of weapons.
"For investigation purposes, the APMM officers who were patrolling the night of the incident have been relieved of their duties. "APMM has stated that it is willing to cooperate with PDRM in the investigation process," he said.
