On Monday, Moroccan security services in the center-west of the country thwarted a major international drug smuggling operation, while more than 18 tons of the drug "Shera" were confiscated and 5 people were arrested.

The General Directorate of National Security in Morocco stated in a statement that “the state authority of the judicial police in the city of Casablanca was able, in close coordination with the interests of the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, in the early hours of Monday morning, to thwart a major international drug smuggling operation from the Sidi Rahal beach area.” A total of 18 tons and 243 kilograms of the drug Shera were seized.

She explained, "This joint security operation resulted in the arrest of five people red-handed in transporting seized drugs on board a large truck for international transport of goods, and attempting to load them on board three speedy rubber boats, for the purpose of smuggling them through the sea routes from Sidi Rahal Beach on the outskirts of the city of Casablanca."

It also confirmed that "the spatial inspection and combing procedures enabled the seizure of a large group of fuel containers, powerful marine engines, three speedy rubber boats, air pumps, and a satellite phone, in addition to a large truck used to transport drugs via land routes."

She indicated that the five people arrested in this case were kept under theoretical custody pending the judicial investigation ordered by the competent Public Prosecution.
