Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, tried to steer a interview with CNN's Boris Sanchez away from the big story of the day — whether there should be consequences for the war plan chat about an airstrike on Yemen with top defense officials that inadvertently included a journalist.
But Sanchez wasn't having it.
The anchor had asked why senior officials like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe should have discussed the details of a sensitive bombing operation outside of classified government computer systems.
"Like I said before, it was a mistake. everyone makes mistakes," Salazar said dismissively, causing Sanchez to raise an eyebrow.
Salazar praised "patriots" National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Hegseth, adding, "Let's see how they do the next the next two years, and then we can judge them...I mean, listen, those who do not have any sins, they can throw the first stone."
Sanchez followed up by asking if "the whole incident should be investigated."

"That is up to the White House to decide if they want to investigate or not," Salazar said. "I think that we have a lot more other issues that we need to deal with. I am sure that Mike Waltz is very much regretful of what happened...but we should not hone in on this issue. I'm sure they learned from what happened...it's not the first time that this happens, and I'm sure it's not going to be the last one."
Sanchez repeatedly asked if Salazar would support an investigation.
"I don't think that in Congress we should be investigating and spending any time, energy, or money on this issue. Something bigger that would have had other consequences, then I would say, yes."
Sanchez tried to ask when Salazar meant by "more important issues" when this incident could have put American lives at risk, but Salazar wasn't having it.
"We have been five minutes in this. Your hit is around seven or eight. I would like to spend the rest of the time of this hit talking about other things that are a little bit more consequential for the country." Why don't we talk about immigration?" she asked.
Sanchez asked, "Is that sufficient accountability to you to recognize that someone made a mistake and moving on?"
"Boris, I gave you the soundbite already, I just told you!" Salazar asserted.
When Sanchez finally let Salazar know that he was switching topics, she declared, "Thank you! Yes!"
"Yes, I imagine it may be a relief for you not to face questions about this Signal conversation," Sanchez shot back.
