Mystery as man’s body found near popular Greek beach with 10kg barbell tied to his leg as cops launch investigation

THE lifeless body of a man has been mysteriously found near a popular Greek beach with a 10kg barbell tied to his leg.

Cops have launched an immediate investigation into the death after the man’s body was recovered on Schinias beach in Marathon on Sunday.

A diver retrieved the body around 100m from the shore as an ambulance rushed the man to the nearest hospital where he was later confirmed dead.

The local authorities said the man’s body is believed to have been in the water for several days.

The man was estimated to be 40-45 years old. An autopsy was to take place later. Authorities at the nearby port of Rafina were investigating.
