Neurologist Dr. Tatiana Vinogradova points out that neck pain usually appears after hours of work or sleeping on an uncomfortable pillow.

According to her, this pain is called "neck pain" that does not appear spontaneously.

She says: “When you feel pain in the neck, you should change the chair or adjust its height so that the body position on the table is comfortable, so that the hands can be placed on it at the level of the elbows. The arm should also lie freely on the table from the elbow to the hand.”

According to her, the computer screen should be at eye level, neither higher nor lower. The height of the pillow is also important.

She says: “In order to choose a suitable pillow, it is recommended to measure the length of the neck and place it on the pillow so that it matches its height. If the person sleeps on his back, the pillow should be semi-firm, but if he sleeps on his stomach, the pillow should be soft.”

The doctor explains the effect of carrying something on one shoulder.

She says: “If the bag is heavy and causes distortion of the body’s appearance, the muscles will not work properly, and changing the shoulder will not help at all. Therefore, the ideal solution in this case is to use a backpack, but on condition that it is not too heavy.”

According to her, to get rid of neck pain, you should do special neck exercises. These exercises are effective except for the period of exacerbation of the condition. You can also massage the neck gently, and it is better to have a massage therapist do it, otherwise the result may be disastrous. In addition, cracking the neck is never recommended.

The doctor refutes the myth of the benefits of warm ointments for neck pain.

She says: “If the focus of pain is exposed to something hot, the inflammation intensifies. Therefore, an anti-inflammatory ointment should be used. Warming ointments can only be used after the focus of inflammation has been removed.”

She points out that if the pain persists for a long time, it may indicate chronic stress, which is the body's response. It may be caused by anxiety.
