During her days off from work where she cared for cancer patients, the Italian nurse would venture outdoors with Andrea Pedata, 34, who shared her passion for the outdoors.

Valentina, from Bologna, was filmed climbing the rockface of the Pietra Tagliata pass in the Italian Apennines last Saturday.

Within seconds, she confidently scaled the cliff while carrying a backpack.

It would later turn out to be the last video of her alive, as only a few hours later, she accidentally slipped and fell about 330ft down the Barbarossa trail and sustained fatal injuries.

Her devastated boyfriend Andrea said: “I heard a scream and saw her fall.”

The young man immediately called for help and managed to lower himself down to the bottom of the ridge, but there was nothing that could be done to save her.

The heartbroken partner said: “I’m destroyed, it hurts too much.”

He added: “We had many plans together about life and excursions.

“The only consolation is that she left doing what she loved most in the world.”

Valentina’s body was recovered several hours later by police and firefighter helicopters flying over the western side of the mountain.

She will be buried on Wednesday in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Borgo Panigale.

It comes after an Italian tourist died after he plummeted 82 feet while trying to take a selfie with his girlfriend.

Giancarlo Zicari, 49, an engineer from Matera, was in Bali with his girlfriend Ilaria Biagi, 25, when a railing gave way at a popular waterfall spot.

The couple were enjoying their dream holiday when they visited the Gajah Mas waterfalls, in the Baturiti district, in Bali, Indonesia.

According to Tabanan Police Public Relations Chief, Gusti Made Berata, the couple had left the  left the Homm Saranam Hotel for a walk to Villa Gajah Mas.
