Jakarta - The latest research by the World Cancer Research Fund shows that people with larger waistlines have a higher risk of cancer, even if they exercise regularly.
As quoted in the Medical Daily broadcast on Wednesday (22/1), according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the ideal waist circumference for women is less than 88 cm and for men, less than 102 cm.
WHO also recommends 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise or an equivalent combination of both per week.
According to the study, individuals with waist circumferences that do not meet WHO standards face an 11 percent increased risk of cancer even if they exercise as recommended.
However, having a slimmer waist does not completely reduce the risk of cancer.
Researchers observed a 4 percent increased risk of cancer among those who did not meet WHO waist circumference guidelines, even if they had slim waists.
