Poll shows Trump approval rating rises to 40% after assassination attempt

An ABC/Ipsos poll has shown that support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has risen to its highest level in four years following the attempted assassination of him.

According to the poll results, Trump's approval rating reached 40% in recent days after the assassination attempt, noting that this rate is the highest since August 2020, when his approval rating reached 42%.

 Meanwhile, the poll results showed that the approval rating for current US President Joe Biden was 32%, which is 8% lower than Trump's current rating.

The poll also showed that 55% of the US population disapproves of Biden's activities, while 51% of Americans disapprove of Trump's activities.

In addition, the poll showed that 60% of Democratic Party supporters want Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, while the percentage of Republicans who want his election campaign to continue is 5% higher than Democrats (44% for Republicans versus 39% for Democrats).

According to the poll, 38% of Americans believe that Trump would be better at “uniting” the United States than Biden, while 31% of Americans believe that the current president would be better at achieving this task.

The poll was conducted online July 19-20 among 1,141 US adults, with a margin of error of more than 3.1%.

Trump was  the target of an assassination attempt  while speaking at an election rally in Pennsylvania, according to US media.

A video clip documented the moment of the attempted assassination of Trump  moments after he took the stage during an election rally in Pennsylvania, where the Secret Service escorted him with blood pouring from the side of his face. 

As Trump was surrounded by Secret Service agents on stage after the shooting, he said the word "fight" three times to a crowd of supporters.

The FBI declined to comment on the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump  in the shooting incident during a rally in Pennsylvania and referred the request to the Secret Service .
