Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized that bullying cases that occur in schools should not be covered up for the sake of the school's good name, but should be resolved.
"Usually these 'bullying' cases are covered up to protect the good name of the school. I think what is good is to resolve and improve," he said in his speech when opening the 2024 XXIIII PGRI Congress as witnessed on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Saturday.
He expressed concern about cases of bullying, violence and harassment that befell students at school, some even resulting in fatalities.
According to the Head of State, cases of bullying should not happen again and be allowed to drag on. Schools must be a safe place for students to learn, ask questions, be creative, play and socialize.
"Don't let any students be afraid or scared at school. Don't let any students feel stressed at school and don't feel at home at school," said Jokowi.
The President has high hopes for teachers to be the spearhead in creating a safe and comfortable school environment for students.
He asked teachers to prioritize preventive measures so that cases of bullying do not occur.
"Prioritize prevention, prioritize the rights of our children, especially victims, don't let bullying cases be covered up, but resolved," he said.
President Jokowi also advised teachers that education and building the capabilities and character of human resources is important to create a quality demographic bonus in order to realize a Golden Indonesia 2045.
At the end of his speech, he appreciated the collaboration between the government and PGRI to improve the quality and professionalism of teachers, as well as produce a young generation. superior with a strong national character.
