President Trump fires USAID inspector general after criticism of his administration

Washington - U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (11/2) fired the Inspector General of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Paul Martin a day after the agency released a report critical of his administration, NBC News reported, citing the letter.

"On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as Inspector General of the United States Agency for International Development is being terminated, effective immediately," read the letter sent to Martin by Trent Morse, Deputy Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel.

Trump decided to fire Martin after the agency released a report detailing the negative impact of the president and Trump administration's policies on USAID, he said.

The report outlined the risk that understaffing could lead to decreased oversight, leaving USAID “potentially vulnerable to channeling funding to entities or salaries of individuals associated with U.S.-designated terrorist organizations.”

Last week, Trump named Secretary of State Marco Rubio as acting director of USAID. Rubio then told Congress that a review of USAID's foreign assistance activities was underway with the goal of reorganizing it.
