After pleading guilty last September to 60 charges that included bestiality, animal cruelty and even possession of child abuse material – Britton’s team have had his sentencing pushed back.

They requested more time to investigate psychiatric reports received last week, which could even be used to try and reduce the sick abuser’s sentence.

The twisted zoologist will not face court again until May – and angry protestors gathered outside the courtroom today to rage against the decision.

One local woman even held up a sign that read: “Death penalty for Adam Britton”.

She told MailOnline: “He can’t get away with these heinous crimes. Now his brief is asking for psychological tests to check his suitability for rehabilitation – how can that work?

“How can we let this monster back into a community with defenceless, voiceless, innocent animals?

“Really, the death penalty is the only way.”

Chief Justice Grant, the Australian Supreme Court judge dealing with Britton’s case, excused security staff and cops from the courtroom this week in a rare move.

He said the disgusting details laid out in a summary of Britton’s crimes were “confronting and distressing” and that those forced to listen to them could have “adverse psychological reactions”.

Grant also said that he doubts any new psychological findings will reduce Britton’s sentence.

“A serial killer can’t say, for example, ‘My moral culpability is reduced because I suffer from psychopathy.

“I just can’t see where the evidence is going here.”

Another animal rights protester who flocked to the court today said: “He’s got to be punished so people don’t think that animals are something that can be exploited and abused.

“We realise [the death penalty] isn’t going to happen … but incarcerated forever would be my personal choice.”

The British senior researcher at Charles Darwin University in Australia – plead guilty to the grim crimes last September – totalling a possible maximum of 249 years behind bars.

He has been charged with eight counts of bestiality – which carry a maximum sentence of three years, four counts of possessing and transmitting child abuse material – a maximum of 10 years, and 37 counts of aggravated animal cruelty – a maximum of five years.

Britton's horrific online messages

ADAM Britton posted sick messages about his animal abuse online.

In one he wrote about how he adopted new dogs: “Most people want to know you’re a good person and the dog is going to a good home – it’ll have space to play, you’ll take it for walks, it might live in the house etc.”

The sick abuser went on: “Telling them you want a new family member after your old dog died from cancer last year hardly ever fails.”

In another he wrote: “I was talking with someone else about why I love to hurt dogs … I wasn’t sure at first, but now I live for it.

“I can’t stop myself hurting dogs.

“I was sadistic as a child to animals but I had repressed it. In the last few years I let it out again and now I can’t stop. I don’t want to. 🙂 .”

Britton, who rubbed shoulders with Sir David Attenborough and Prince Harry, recorded gruesome videos of the sick animal abuse.

Over 40 animals were tortured, raped or killed at his home and a nearby property between 2020 and 2022 – including his own white Swiss Shepherds, Ursa and Bolt.

Britton used a shipping container on his remote property to inflict torture on the animals.

He posted the sick footage on Telegram to engage with like-minded abusers.

In one chilling message on the site, the ‘world’s worst animal abuser’ spoke about his urges to a stranger:

“I had repressed it. In the last few years, I let it out again, and now I can’t stop. I don’t want to.”

It was Britton’s sick online posting that saw him brought to justice, when an online sleuth noticed a distinctive collar on the dog in one of his videos – and contacted cops.

A month after the video was posted, police raided his Darwin home and arrested him.

The disgraced zoologist would use websites like Gumtree Australia to “adopt” dogs for his crimes.

He is married to a biologist and wildlife ranger, Erin, and led a double life as he carried out the abuse.

There is no suggestion that she knew anything about her husband’s crimes, and she appears to have dropped his surname online.
