Riot Games has officially opened registrations for the closed alpha tests of its upcoming 2XKO game, set to take place from August 8th to August 19th, 2024.

Upon its release in 2019, this 2v2 tag-team fighting game was initially known as Project L. It leverages popular characters from the League of Legends universe, including Ahri, Ekko, and Yasuo. These tests aim to refine the game by gathering player feedback before its scheduled full release in 2025.

Registration and participation details

Starting June 26th, gamers interested in participating in the Alpha Lab tests can register using their Riot Games account. Upon registration, participants must complete surveys that Riot Games will use to select players for the testing phase.

The tests, available on various platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC, allow players to experience the game from their homes through both online and offline modes.

The selection process for testers is random, and successful applicants will receive an email with details on downloading and accessing the game. In a recent discussion with FCG commentator Sajam, Tom Cannon, Riot Games’ executive producer, mentioned that previous participants must re-register for this testing phase. Additionally, selected players will receive a referral link to invite one friend to join the test, although the link can only be used once and will not support a further referral chain.

Enhanced gameplay and character updates

In an interview, 2XKO officials expressed their excitement about the game’s advancements, describing the updated characters as more sophisticated and engaging than in previous versions.

This game iteration focuses heavily on multiplayer PvP combat, providing a robust platform for players to challenge each other using their favorite League of Legends characters in new, dynamic environments.

Feedback collection and plans

Throughout the Alpha Lab tests, Riot Games plans to issue periodic surveys to gather detailed participant feedback. This input will be crucial for the developers as they make necessary adjustments and enhancements before the game’s full launch.

Tom Cannon emphasized the importance of player feedback at this early stage, stating, “It is important that we hear your voice at an early enough stage so we can make changes.” Moreover, Riot Games encourages participants to livestream their gameplay on social media platforms.

This strategy helps collect additional feedback from viewers who aren’t part of the alpha tests and increases public engagement and anticipation for the final product. While the final release date in 2025 remains unspecified, the developers have planned further tests beyond the Alpha Lab to ensure the game meets community expectations and delivers an optimal gaming experience.

As Riot Games progresses with these plans, the gaming community eagerly awaits what promises to be a significant expansion of the League of Legends world through 2XKO. The blend of familiar characters and innovative gameplay mechanics is poised to set a new benchmark in the fighting game genre.
