RUSSIA’S bloodiest serial killer ‘The Werewolf’ is set to confess to even more brutal murders as his kill count could now be close to 200.
Mikhail Popkov, 59, was today sentenced to another ten years in jail after a conviction for the murders of three other women.

But a police source believes his true toll is “closer to 200”, with further trials likely.
Popkov will serve the new term concurrently with two previous life sentences and a previous nine year term.
But the maniac hopes to get out of jail early by volunteering to fight for Vladimir Putin in his war against Ukraine.
The sex attacker only murdered women aged 18 to 50, raping most of his victims before killing them with axes, hammers, knives, screwdrivers and spades.
War beast
Popkov, also known as the ‘Angarsk Maniac’ after his home city, has volunteered to join the army which could mean freedom after six months if he remains alive.
Putin has already recruited from jails thousands of mass murderers and rapists for his war – along with one Satanist cannibal killer – and pardoned them, wiping their criminal records.
The sickening Kremlin scheme has freed more than 40,000 convicts since the invasion began on February 24.
Popkov is still waiting for an answer to his plea to go into uniform, and today’s verdict and sentencing may help.
Earlier this year during his trial, Popkov was asked by Russian state TV: “What is your dream?”
He replied: “To join the army.”
The smiling mass killer said: “I would not hesitate to do so [join the war].
“If I refer to my military registration profession, I think it’s in rather high demand now…
“Though it’s probably more modern these days – radio-electronics…
“But even though I’ve been in prison for 10 years, I don’t think it would be so hard to learn [new skills] quickly.”
Killing spree
The married father-of-one carried a reign of terror against lone women between 1992 and 2010 mainly in Angarsk which he wanted to “cleanse of prostitutes”.
His latest convictions relate to killings in Irkutsk between 1997 and 2003 after two women aged 25 and 27 were strangled on the banks of the Angara River in Irkutsk.
The body of one was doused in petrol and set ablaze.
The third was a 31-year-old kindergarten teacher and mother of two.
A relative said: “She went to a cafe…but in the evening she did not come home.
“We looked for her everywhere for two days.
“And after a while a woman’s body was found in a freshly dug grave in the cemetery.
“I went to the morgue for identification – it was definitely her…”
Popkov told the court that this woman had been “drunk” when he offered her a lift home.
He forced her to have sex in the car before stabbing her at least 40 times and throwing her body out of the car.
A psychiatric evaluation diagnosed Popkov with homicidal mania, “a condition when a person has an irrational desire to kill someone”, reported TASS.
But the mass murderer was declared sane and was put to work in jail making face masks during the pandemic.
“There were moments when I thought the death penalty was better,” he said.
Russia has had a ban on use of the death penalty since 1996, although there is pressure for it to return amid the country’s lurch into authoritarianism.
Before this, the condemned were shot to the back of the head by an executioner.
A chilling video from Popkov’s family archive shows the killer in the 1990s walking towards the camera clutching a knife and reciting a post-war nursery rhyme based on Nazi prisoners of war attacking locals.
“I will slash you. I will beat you. Now it’s your turn,” he said with a sinister smile.
One of the vile killer’s survivors has told how she woke up in a morgue after he raped her and left her for dead.
Surviving the monster
Svetlana Misyavitchus survived a ruthless attack by the 54-year-old former cop and has spoken of her ordeal – and how he wrecked her life.
Misyavitchus said she was a 17-year-old virgin when she was returning home in the cold from a friend’s house in her city of Angarsk.
A police car stopped and the driver offered her a lift.
She said: “I thought it’s safe to go with a policeman. I was so cold from head to toes so I accepted.”
She remembers that he drove past her house and she asked him: “Where are we going?”
The next thing she recalled was him “repeatedly banging my head against a tree” – it seemed “to go on for an eternity”.
She added: “I was shaking, he wanted to rape me. He was mute – he didn’t respond to anything.
“He said nothing. I crawled out from under him and ran to his car. I was hoping to find car keys there – but failed.
“He caught me and I tripped down some steps.”

When she was discharged a few months later, her hair had turned grey.
The now 37-year-old said: “His attack aged me by seven years. My brain was damaged.
“If not for him, I would have had a normal life, had a family, and given birth to great kids.”
