Russian scientists obtain a new variety of fast-maturing soybeans

Scientists of the Voronezh University of Agricultural Sciences, in cooperation with scientists of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences, have obtained a new variety of soybeans, fast maturing and rich in protein.

Professor Tatiana Vaschenko from Voronezh University points out that the new variety, called “Vasilisa,” is fast-maturing, its productivity reaches 2.9 tons per hectare, and it contains more than 40 percent protein. The work to obtain this breed took about ten years.

According to her, this new variety of soybeans is of great importance, as when grown correctly, it will give a 25 percent higher profit.

The professor points out that the new “Vasilisa” variety has been included in the state’s record of selective achievements, and has obtained a patent. According to her, the university has other achievements in the field of soybeans that will be recorded later.
