The post Shiba Inu Announces Launch of ‘.shib’ Domain for SHIB Holders: Bridging Web2 and Web3 appeared first on Coinpedia Fintech News
The Shiba Inu cryptocurrency team has recently announced a groundbreaking initiative in the digital domain space. They are set to introduce the ‘.shib’ domain, specifically designed for SHIB coin holders. This move marks a significant leap in bridging the gap between traditional internet systems (Web2) and the emerging Web3 technology.
The dog-themed memecoin Shiba Inu (SHIB), known for its vibrant community and innovative projects, is now stepping into the domain name system (DNS). In collaboration with D3, an internet domain firm specializing in next-generation domains, Shiba Inu aims to launch a top-level domain (TLD) – ‘.shib.’ This initiative is unlike current Web3 domains, such as ‘.crypto’ and ‘.eth’, which do not function natively on the DNS used by standard internet applications.
Enhancing Web3 Interoperability
The ‘.shib’ domain is designed to function seamlessly with commonly used internet tools, including web browsers and email systems. This interoperability represents a significant step forward, as current Web2 domains like ‘.com’ and ‘.net’ do not offer native functionality with Web3 tools, such as digital wallets and identity solutions.
For this initiative to take off, D3 will need to apply to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a U.S.-based non-profit organization responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces of the Internet. Upon approval, SHIB holders will have the unique opportunity to create email addresses and other identifiers ending with the ‘.shib’ suffix, fully compatible with conventional email applications.

Beyond Domains: Name Tokens and Digital Assets
In addition to the domain name initiative, D3 plans to introduce ‘name tokens’ for SHIB users. These tokens will simplify sending digital assets across various blockchains, eliminating the need for lengthy, complex wallet addresses. This feature aims to enhance user experience and accessibility within the SHIB ecosystem.
Despite this innovative announcement, the SHIB cryptocurrency saw a minimal change in its market value, with a decrease of less than 1% since the news. However, this development’s broader implications could be substantial regarding user engagement and ecosystem growth.
Shiba Inu’s new layer two blockchain, the Shibarium network, achieved a milestone with 1 million users in September. While currently in a private mode, there are plans to make it publicly accessible soon, further expanding the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
