Considered the streamer’s big movie hit of 2024, Society of the Snow has remained in Netflix’s in-house Top 10 charts for the first week of January.

Society of the Snow is an immersive, harrowing tale based on the 1972 plane crash in the Andes mountain range.

The film revolves around a rugby team from Uruguay that board the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 that was destined to arrive in Santiago, Chile. During the flight, tragedy struck the aircraft carrier as it suffered a crash thanks to the chaotic weather in the snowy Andes. It’s a grappling effect that keeps viewers on edge as the crash happens suddenly and abruptly, taking viewers by surprise.

How the group of young players manage to escape and survive, forms the crux of Society of the Snow.

For example, when we talk about the crash scene viewers will notice that it is a highly realistic situation in terms of depiction. You will notice that it’s a state of panic throughout the film, bringing brownie points to the movie.

But what catches our attention is that it sheds light on matters like cannibalism as a desperate measure towards survival – of course, this is met with a ton load of debates and arguments on the issue but at the end of it they have no other option but to eat lifesaving proteins – despite it being raw.

Despite being based on a real-life tragedy, Society of the Snow shows us a bigger picture. The film revolves around the hostile society that forms in the face of uncalled tragedy with no expectations for a better tomorrow. The movie beautifully depicts the raw candidness of humans and how long they can survive.

So if you ask us what we know about the movie and what we think of it – it’s an experience of a lifetime. We get to see the ins and outs of the tragedy, the survival mode, the terrors, the fear, and the hostility of the society that forms amidst an unforgiving and relentless Andes mountain range.
