  • Soneium, backed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, is working with LINE to integrate four successful mini-apps into its blockchain ecosystem in the coming months.
  • The collaboration builds on Soneium’s mainnet going live in January, coinciding with LINE’s rollout of its decentralized app portal.

Sony’s blockchain subsidiary, Soneium, a Layer-2 blockchain built on the Ethereum network to enhance digital fan engagement and cryptocurrency trading, has announced a partnership with LINE, one of the most popular messaging platforms in Japan and Thailand. As part of the partnership, Soneuim will integrate blockchain-enabled applications into LINE’s platform, bringing blockchain-based gaming experiences to its 200 million active users.

Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “LINE has built a strong presence, and integrating successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem is the next step toward making Soneium more accessible. We believe this collaboration will drive engagement and adoption in ways that were previously difficult to achieve.”

Blockchain-Powered Mini-Apps

As outlined in the press release, four gaming mini-apps will be featured on the Soneium blockchain. One of the games is Sleepagotchi LITE, a simplified version of the upcoming Sleepagotchi Sleep Rewards app for iOS and Android, which will be integrated into the network. The original version of the app gained 1 million users on Telegram in just one month, highlighting its potential for viral adoption.

Farm Frens is a farming simulation game that debuted as a top-ranked mini-game on Telegram in 2024 and has secured over $10 million in funding to date. Its integration into LINE’s platform will allow it to reach a significantly larger audience.

Moonveil’s Puffy Match is designed to enhance the visibility of zk-L2 and AI-powered gaming ecosystems by making blockchain gaming more accessible and engaging for LINE users. The game leverages zero-knowledge proofs and artificial intelligence, allowing it to offer a unique experience within the blockchain gaming space.

Lastly, Pocket Mob is a social strategy RPG that lets players engage in Mafia-style battles and form Families directly within social messenger apps. Players can earn Respect points, which can be converted into NFT rewards, further promoting digital asset ownership and incentivizing engagement.

As we reported in January, Sony Block Solutions launched Soneium in partnership with several major blockchain players, including Astar Network, Alchemy, Chainlink, Circular, Optimism, and Graph Protocol. This followed a highly successful test phase that saw 14 million user accounts created and 47 million transactions processed on the network.

Around the same time, LINE introduced a decentralized app (dApp) portal within its mobile messenger, powered by its blockchain subsidiary, Kaia. This enabled LINE’s active users across Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand to access dApps directly through the platform. Line Mini App builders will benefit from Soneium’s assistance, combining community building, strategic marketing, and IP collaboration. By leveraging LINE’s user base, the Soneium blockchain could accelerate the adoption of decentralized applications, potentially setting a precedent for future collaborations between tech giants and blockchain platforms.
