Rumors about Adam Sandler‘s upcoming dramatic role, Spaceman, have been circulating since late 2020, but the movie is now planned to be released in 2024.
The sci-fi drama adventure film, based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Czech author Jaroslav Kalfař, stars Sandler as the eponymous astronaut, Jakub.
Spaceman, directed by Johan Renck of Chornobyl fame & written by Colby Day, follows an astronaut stationed on a mission to deep space, where he comes across an ancient species that has stowed away on board his ship.
The movie is described as “an intergalactic journey of love, determination, and self-discovery.” Following up on the Spaceman teaser trailer that premiered in December, Netflix recently unveiled the entire trailer.
Spaceman | Official Trailer
The trailer opens by showing how lonely Sandler’s lead character, Jakub Procházka, feels after going on a solo space mission for approximately 200 days.
Jakub, a middle-aged, middle-class man and an independent nation’s first astronaut, is assigned to a mission to reach and study a mystery cluster of space dust.
However, he is unfamiliar with space travel and misses his wife back home. A mysterious creature known as Hanuš (Dano) appears & helps the astronaut fill the increasing gap between him and his wife, Lenka (Mulligan).
Sandler portrays an astronaut drifting in space thousands of kilometers from home, with faith at a low ebb. The film, which explores themes of solitude and survival, is Sandler’s latest dramatic part, and he’s undoubtedly pushing his acting skills right now.
The Spaceman trailer is unique for a Netflix-Sandler collaboration since it does not include a single laugh-inducing scene. Sandler has frequently switched between broad humor and severe drama throughout his career. However, his Netflix films have been mainly low-rated comedies, such as The Ridiculous Six, The Do-Over, & Sandy Wexler.
