Special Counsel Jack Smith, in a filing to the Supreme Court, emphasized the importance of resolving the question of a former President's immunity from federal prosecution for crimes committed while in office. The Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority, including three justices nominated by Trump, will expedite consideration of the request. Trump's trial is set to begin on March 4, 2024.
