Recap Of The Abandoned
The movie ‘The Abandoned’ begins with Deputy Captain Wu feeling desperate and ready to end her life, sitting in the same place where her fiancé died by suicide. But just as she’s about to do it, she hears noises and sees a woman running away. Investigating, she finds the dead body of a woman.
Even though Wu wants to switch jobs, she has to work on this case with a new officer, Wei-shan, who did well in police training.
They discovered the victim was missing a finger and her heart was taken after her blood was drained. Another story parallels this: Saipin is looking for her missing sister Waree. The police get a call saying the dead woman might be Waree.
Wu and Wei-shan find out Waree had been calling Yu-sheng, Saipin, and Mankong. Yu-sheng claims he doesn’t know anything, but later confesses to Wu that he helped hide Waree’s body after Mankong told him he found her dead.
Feeling guilty, Mankong kills himself. Yu-sheng then leads Wu to the body of another victim, an illegal immigrant named Yeti Ayuni, buried by her employer to avoid trouble with the law.
Wu realizes the killer uses the victims’ employers to hide the bodies. She connects the murders to the victims’ birthdays and fears for Saipin, whose birthday is soon.
They suspect a cab driver named Huang Tung-chi, but CCTV footage proves otherwise. The team discovers the killer uses a fake license plate to abduct victims. They track the imposter’s car to a parking lot and rush there to catch the murderer.

The Abandoned Ending Explained
At the end of the movie, ‘The Abandoned’ it is revealed that Fan Chang-fu, a photographer, turns out to be the killer. He lures illegal migrant workers in need of fake documents.
Using this, he tracks them down and kills them on their birthdays. He cleverly disposes of their bodies at their workplaces, staying hidden among the crowd.
Chang-fu’s motive stems from a woman he loved, a migrant worker who escaped him. She drugged him on his birthday and fled, leaving him heartbroken. To seek revenge for this betrayal, he targets other migrant women, removing their ring fingers and hearts as symbols of love he never received.
He keeps these body parts as twisted mementos, believing he’s gaining their love. His killings on birthdays stem from the betrayal he faced on his special day. Eventually, he meets his end when one of his intended victims, Wu, manages to free herself and shoots him.
