Amnesty International (AI) issued a statement today, July 8, saying that despite international sanctions, jet fuel is still in the hands of the Myanmar military.
It is said that in the first six months of this year, there were at least two to three shipments of jet fuel in the hands of the Burmese military.
Chinese state-owned CNOOC Trading (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. Singapore-based Sahara Energy International Pte. Ltd and other companies are said to be involved.
According to the report of the AI group, these companies are sending oil to Myanmar via Vietnam via a large Chinese oil tanker named HUITONG78.
It is also said that the third export is likely to be from the United Arab Emirates.
Many Western countries, including the United Nations, have called for a ban on aircraft fuel because the Burmese military has been using air to attack civilians.
The AI group also said that the military council's air strikes are increasing.
In Rakhine State alone, where fighting is raging, 49 civilians were killed and 105 were injured by airstrikes and heavy weapons of the military council last June.
