The death toll from Afghanistan floods rises to 315 people

The number of victims of floods in large parts of Afghanistan has risen to 315 people, according to Afghan government data.

According to information published by the Ministry concerned with refugee affairs, on the “X” platform, the floods resulted in the death of at least 315 people, the injury of 1,630 people, the complete and partial destruction of 2,665 homes, and the death of 1,000 heads of livestock.

Heavy rains in Afghanistan led to devastating floods in the northern provinces of the country, especially Baghlan Province, where the floods caused great destruction and a large number of deaths. Other provinces in the north, such as Badakhshan and Herat, also witnessed rains and floods.

The World Food Program reported yesterday, Saturday, that the death toll from these floods exceeded 300 people, while the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reported that the number was no less than 200.

The Taliban government has not yet issued a comprehensive report clarifying the extent of loss and damage to lives and property resulting from the recent floods.

For his part, Afghan government spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said via “X” that “hundreds of our citizens died in these disastrous floods.”

Former Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the floods taking place in the country, and urged charities and merchants to help the affected families.

The former President of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, also appealed to relief organizations to expedite the provision of assistance to those affected and seek to provide them with the necessary necessities.

Afghanistan has been witnessing heavy rains for about a month, causing flash floods, causing losses of lives and property.
