Laos currently holds the ASEAN chairmanship and will be replaced by Malaysia in 2025.
The High Commissioner for Human Rights, who is visiting Malaysia, met today with the Prime Minister of Malaysia and also met with the victims of war in Myanmar.
The High Commissioner said that there is an urgent need for assistance from ASEAN as more than three million people have fled their homes and are in need of humanitarian assistance after the military coup.
Among the ASEAN countries, Malaysia is one of the countries that strongly opposed the military coup.
