Jakarta - Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono said that President Joko Widodo has regularly distributed basic food packages since 2014 to help people meet their basic needs.

"Yes, from the beginning of 2014, it contained basic necessities. Why? People's needs are very essential, right, cooking oil, rice, sugar, tea," said Heru when met in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday.

Heru explained that since 2014, he has accompanied President Jokowi on every working visit to the region.

He said that President Jokowi ordered the readiness of 5,000 basic food packages to the Presidential Secretariat to be distributed within 24 hours.

"For example, during the earthquake in Palu, during the flood in Bogor, he couldn't get help. So, in the far corners of Indonesian cities, every time the President goes on a working visit, he must be able to prepare in approximately two days to the point, if possible, 24 hours," said Heru. .

President Jokowi also distributed basic necessities to people who crossed the front yard of the Merdeka Palace, specifically Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta.

Recipients of aid ranging from online motorcycle taxi drivers, PPSU officers to the general public received aid packages containing 5 kilograms of rice, vegetable oil, biscuits and tea bags, which were packaged in a white bag marked with the words Assistance from the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Heru explained that President Jokowi's consideration for distributing basic food aid was because the Head of State was paying attention to the people who were still in Jakarta, in the midst of the homecoming flow ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

"This is the President's habit of wanting to be close to the people and towards the end of the month of Ramadan entering Eid al-Fitr, he is paying attention to that," said Heru.
