Norway welcomed the adoption by the UN Security Council of a resolution calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement published on the X platform on Tuesday: “Norway welcomes the Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.”
She considered that this resolution “represents hope for the people of Gaza who have been suffering from a terrifying war for more than 8 months, and the resolution also confirms the member states’ firm commitment to the two-state solution.”
On Monday evening, the UN Security Council adopted a draft American resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, with a majority of 14 votes, while Russia abstained from voting.
At the end of last May, US President Joe Biden spoke about Israel submitting a three-stage proposal that includes a ceasefire in Gaza, a prisoner exchange, and the reconstruction of the Strip.
