Thousands of Rohingya are waiting to cross the border into Bangladesh

Thousands of Rohingya who fled from Rakhine State, where the fighting is raging, are still waiting in the fields near Nat River to be allowed to leave for Bangladesh, the Turkish-based AA news agency wrote on August 11.

Rohingya fleeing from Maungdaw Township on August 5th were attacked by drones near Nat River, killing hundreds of Rohingya. Although there are those who have returned home, there are thousands waiting to cross the border into Bangladesh, according to the news.

In the first week of this month, more than 1,500 Rohingya crossed the Nat River and reached Bangladesh, some stakeholders told RFA.

A young Rohingya who arrived in Bangladesh on August 6 said that they pay about 800,000 Myanmar kyats per person to cross from Maungdaw to Bangladesh by boat.

Some Rohingyas told RFA that the Bangladeshi government does not officially accept the Rohingyas, so they have to hide with close friends in the refugee camps.

After the AA occupied the military council army's large military base and strategic hill in Maungdaw Township, since last June 16th, the AA has been attacking the military bases in the vicinity of the town, so the fighting between the two sides is intense.
