The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is famous for its superhero stories, but it has struggled with creating compelling villains for over a decade. Despite this, it has introduced various villains who earned the audience hate for their evil or controversial plans.
The MCU, the biggest connected universe in the superhero genre, includes TV shows linked to movies and introduces a range of characters—heroes, allies, and villains, whether human, alien, or mutant. While the MCU excels in creating compelling heroes, its villains haven’t received the same praise.

1. Thanos
Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, was the big villain in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame. He planned to balance the universe by wiping out half of all life using the Infinity Stones.
Thanos didn’t mind destroying planets or lives to get these stones. Although he succeeded temporarily in “Infinity War,” he was eventually defeated in “Endgame.”
2. Mysterio:
Quentin Beck, also known as Mysterio and played by Jake Gyllenhaal, was introduced in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” He was a former Stark Industries employee who felt betrayed by Tony Stark.
Using advanced technology, he posed as a hero to get revenge on Stark and frame Spider-Man. Despite being defeated, he caused chaos by revealing Spider-Man’s secret identity.
3. Gravik
Gravik, portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir, appeared in the Disney+ series “Secret Invasion.” He was a Skrull leader who sought revenge on Nick Fury for failing to find the Skrulls a new home.
Gravik orchestrated covert attacks to start a nuclear war and take Earth for the Skrulls. He used Avengers’ DNA to enhance himself and create an army of Super-Skrulls.
4. High Evolutionary
Introduced in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” the High Evolutionary, played by ChukwudiIwuji, aimed to create a perfect society by experimenting on creatures. His experiments caused suffering and mutations, like Rocket Raccoon’s. He showed no remorse for his actions.
5. Red Skull
Johann Schmidt, or Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving, led HYDRA, a Nazi division. He sought to use the Tesseract for world domination during World War II. Tesseract teleportation led him to Vormir, where he became the Stonekeeper.
6. Ultron
Voiced by James Spader, Ultron was created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner for peacekeeping but turned against humanity. He planned to eradicate humanity by causing a global extinction event. His scheme involved lifting a city to cause a catastrophic impact.
7. Arishem
Arishem, the Prime Celestial, wanted Eternals to evolve lifeforms for Celestial birth, destroying planets. He disregarded the well-being of life across the universe.
8. Dreykov
General Dreykov, played by Ray Winstone, oversaw the Black Widow Program, training young women as assassins. The program involved brutal conditioning and surgeries, with high mortality rates.
9. Ego
Ego, portrayed by Kurt Russell, planned universal remaking through the “Expansion,” using his children as tools. He killed his offspring who didn’t inherit his powers, including Peter Quill’s mother.
10. Kilgrave
Kilgrave, played by David Tennant in “Jessica Jones,” had mind-control abilities. He manipulated and harmed people, including Jessica Jones, for his desires, showing no remorse or empathy.
