Donald Trump announced that he spoke to Chinese president Xi Jinping just days before returning to the White House.

The president-elect posted on his Truth Social website that he spoke by phone with Xi for the first time since 2021, just three days before his inauguration.

"I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China," Trump posted. "The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately. We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!"

TikTok parent company ByteDance's CEO is expected to attend Trump's inauguration Monday, while Xi has reportedly been invited, and China's foreign ministry announced the Trump-Xi call Friday morning, hours before they spoke.

“We stand ready to work with the new U.S. government to enhance dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly pursue a stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. relationship, and find the right way for the two countries to get along,” the ministry said.

Trump has threatened tariffs against China, as well as Canada and Mexico, over what he sees as a trade imbalance, although most economists warn that would raise prices for American consumers.

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the law banning TikTok.
