It turns out politics really is a zoo.
Millions of Brits headed to the polls on Thursday to vote in the U.K. general election, and many brought their furry friends along for the ride.
Dogs, cats, ferrets and even a horse or two were spotted at polling stations around the U.K., creating something of a paw-litical spectacle.
“This trend that has popped up in social media in recent years is a way that people can show that they voted, but is also a way to celebrate their pets,” said Chris O’Brien, the national media manager at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“Elections are really important for animal welfare,” he added. “We know that the power that politicians have across the political divide can make really positive change for our pets.”
