More Americans applied for jobless benefits last week, but layoffs remain historically low. Applications rose to 215,000, with a total of 1.9 million Americans collecting jobless benefits. The four-week average of claims fell to 212,500. US employers added 353,000 jobs in January, and the unemployment rate remains low at 3.7%.
