Voter turnout is crucial in battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Georgia in the US presidential election as the country relies on an electoral college to determine the winner of the presidential race, said Brian Smith, professor of Political Science at St. Edward’s University in Austin. “You just need to win that state by a single vote” to get all the electoral votes, Smith explained, adding that there is no proportional representation nor a second round.
