New US sanctions against Russia aim to undermine its energy production

The US State Department announced in an official statement that the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia on Wednesday aim to undermine Moscow's energy production, specifically the Arctic project.

According to the statement published on Wednesday, the new sanctions specifically target the Arctic 2 LNG project.

The statement added: “The Ministry continues to include organizations participating in the development of Russian energy production and export in the future,” under a special item titled “Undermining the future production of energy, minerals, and mining.”

The statement added: "Today's actions demonstrate the United States' continued determination to limit the production and export capabilities of the Arctic LNG 2 project, as well as support for the project by third parties."

The State Department claims that the previously imposed restrictions have “actually hampered energy production within the project” and led to a significant increase in the cost of its implementation.

The document also states that the sanctions aim to "increase the responsibility of organizations providing material support" to the operator of the Arctic LNG-2 project.

The US Treasury Department announced this evening, Wednesday, the expansion of the list of sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation to include 29 individuals, more than 250 companies, and 16 ships flying the Russian flag.
