Internet security experts have warned of fraud and theft of user data and funds in the Euro 2024 tournament.
The competition, which was held in Germany, was launched on June 14, amid great global interest and fans’ eagerness to follow it, whether from the stands or on television.
Kaspersky experts, who specialize in Internet security, confirmed that there is a fraudulent page that uses the name of a famous German energy company and deceives fans by offering free tickets to attend matches.
This page requires subscribers to fill out forms with their names, phone numbers, and addresses, in order to leak payment data and personal information, through built-in loopholes that allow fraudsters to control each subscriber’s browser.
There are also fake broadcast platforms that provide special coverage of the tournament and their goal is to steal fans’ data as well, in addition to another scheme that includes currencies bearing the name of England star Harry Kane, and it is promoted through emails and social media platforms.
