Warnings of new fraudulent methods to hack Telegram accounts

Kaspersky Lab experts have warned that hackers have recently started using new fraudulent methods to hack Telegram users’ accounts.

Kaspersky Lab experts noted that “scammers and hackers have recently started sending fraudulent messages to Telegram users in Russia. These messages make users believe that they can withdraw cryptocurrencies from the Hamster Kombat game and convert them into rubles. The message asks the user to log in to his Telegram account through a specific link and enter his electronic account data. In this way, account data is stolen and hacked.”

“Fraudulent messages appearing to Telegram users suggest that money transfers will be made within 15 minutes after logging in via the link in the message. To protect your Telegram account, it is important to set up two-factor authentication for logging in and not click on links from suspicious messages,” said Olga Svistunova, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab.

Available information indicates that phishing attempts against Telegram users in the first half of this year were 22% higher than in the same period last year.
