Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) on Wednesday raised suspicions about former President Donald Trump's reported post-presidency phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
While appearing on CNN, Auchincloss was asked about the purported calls, which were reported by legendary Watergate journalist Bob Woodward as part of an upcoming book.
"It falls under the header of shocking but not surprising," he said. "Trump's always been a Putin fanboy and he's now, I think, spoken to Vladimir Putin seven times, Woodward reports, since leaving office."
The Massachusetts Democrat then outlined significant national security concerns he had about the calls.

"The question I have is we know that Trump had classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, we know that Trump has been rooting for Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine and has called it 'brilliant' and has indicated that he would hand Ukraine back to Vladimir Putin, no questions asked," he said. "We know that Trump trusts Russian intelligence more than American intelligence, he's said that himself repeatedly. So during those seven phone calls, those weren't pleasantries being exchanged -- what were they talking about?"
Auchincloss went on to speculate that Trump could have shared classified intelligence about Ukraine with Putin to give him an advantage during his invasion, although he offered no evidence to back up such a claim.
