Whooping cough is surging in China with more than a dozen deaths

China is experiencing a significant resurgence of whooping cough, with cases in the first two months of 2024 soaring more than 20 times compared to the same period in 2023. The National Disease Control and Prevention Administration reported 32,380 cases of pertussis, known as whooping cough, in January and February of 2024, a sharp increase from 1,421 cases during the same timeframe in 2023.
