Why almost 150 earthquakes struck Japan in less than a day

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Japan's northwest coast, killing dozens. The quake triggered a tsunami warning, but alerts were lifted after a wave of at least 1.2 meters. There is a 20% risk of another quake of the same size. Frequent aftershocks are putting structures at risk. Japan has an earthquake early warning system that has sent false alarms.
