President Joe Biden is coming to Madison, Wisconsin on Monday to announce a new student debt relief program.
Of course, the Republicans are not very happy about this, and not just because they're opposed to helping people who are not wealthy donors. But instead of their usual attack that such programs are inherently unfair, they have decided to try a new tactic. They're trying to claim that Biden is only going to Madison because he's losing his own base. Wisconsin GOP Chair Brian Schimming went on air and said as much:
Look, Joe Biden has got a problem with his own base. Think about this, Joe and Amanda: He is coming to Wisconsin this Monday. Where is he going? Is he going to someplace where there's a lot of undecideds? Is he going to someplace up in the Fox Valley near Green Bay where it's a swing area of the state? No. Joe Biden is coming to Madison, Wisconsin.
I'm like the only Republican you two know that actually lives near Madison, and you know, the "Berkeley of the Midwest." He keeps having to come to his own base to shore up his base. A four year president, he shouldn't have to do that.
But here he's coming to Madison, Wisconsin, where I am right now, which is 70, 80, you know, to 20 liberal, and he has to come back.
