Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that he intends to use US-made tactical ATACMS missiles to strike targets in Crimea after obtaining them.
Zelensky indicated in a statement to the Washington Post that he intends to target military airports in Crimea that Russia uses to strike targets in Ukraine.
He explained: "If Russia knew that we could destroy those planes, they would not attack us from Crimea. This is the same as with the naval fleet. We expelled them from our territorial waters. Now we will expel them from the airports in Crimea."
Zelensky refused to answer the question of whether ATACMS missiles were on their way to Ukraine, saying only that they "do not exist" in Ukraine at the present time.
The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that the Pentagon had become open to delivering ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, after new PrSM missiles entered service in the United States.
It is noteworthy that Crimea joined Russia in 2014, but Ukraine still considers it part of its territory and calls it “temporarily occupied territories.”
